Accepted by Harvard University, Boston for a PhD starting in September 1999. On 3 April, Tim left England on a four month trip of Africa, to include Cape Town, Johannesburg, Victoria Falls and Kilimanjaro. Tim was part of an organised "Environmental Ranger Course" - an 18 day trek through South Africa. On 24 April (Day 13), the group were enjoying a regular part of the trek : jumping from 12m high rocks into a deep pool. Tim jumped into the pool and appeared to land very awkwardly and heavily - he did not resurface. Despite the best and immediate efforts of the group to find him, it was not until the next day that Tim's body was recovered by police divers. He was 23 years old. |
